September 17th, 2013 is a date that will go down in history. That was when one of the biggest-selling games of all time was released. That was the fifth installment of the GTA franchise. It launched on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. However soon after it launched both Sony and Microsoft released more powerful hardware. The PlayStation 4 arrived and so did Microsoft’s new console the Xbox One. In November of the following year, Rockstar brought Grand Theft Auto V to the new hardware followed by PC a few months later.
March last year we were into the new console hardware with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions. So now what is the game like today? How is Grand Theft Auto V holding up after being upgraded twice and with the addition of first ray-traced shadows and now ray-traced reflections? So I set about reinstalling the game on Xbox Series X and looking through the difference between the Performance RT mode and the new fidelity mode. Just to inform you as well the current build of the game sits at 113.9 GB on the Xbox Series X.
Grand Theft Auto V Today
With all shots, the Performance RT mode will be on the left with fidelity on the right. The first comparison below I have is on a car body. Performance RT shows no sign of Michael next to the car however fidelity we see his reflection.

The second and third comparisons we see a more realistic reflection on the window with fidelity mode on.

This shot shows no reflection at all in Performance RT mode where fidelity we see the car and Franklin.

In these last examples, we see with fidelity mode a more accurate representation of reflection in the water surfaces.

Overall it’s a good job but games like Spider-Man do offer a much better representation of ray-traced reflections. There were times even in fidelity car reflections in the background didn’t mirror the car in real-time. Overall without PC mods, some have taken the visuals to a whole new level, this is the best the game will look on the console.
