E3 has been gone for a while, and events like Summer Game Fest have risen to fill the gap. When it comes to indie games, there are few better in-person events than The Media Indie Exchange (The MIX) showcases. The in-person showcase took place on the rooftop of the Grammy Museum in LA Live. While there, LV1 Gaming had the opportunity to play many upcoming titles. While there on the way to grab something to eat from the bar, a gentleman called out to me and, like a quest giver in an open-world RPG, asked a simple question, “Would you like to play my game?”
He handed me a laptop with the game Utopia Must Fall up and running on it. Developed and published by Pixeljam the developers of Dino Run DX. I quickly found myself addicted to the gameplay loop. Imagine missile command blended with roguelite mechanics, and you have the core gameplay of Utopia Must Fall. So boom, I am on the rooftop of a fancy building overlooking downtown Los Angeles, with a laptop in my lap hooked on this game. I easily spent 15 minutes playing before I remembered where I was; the game grabbed me that quickly. A group of people around us began passing the laptop around so everyone could check it out, and we all had similar reactions. The game is fun.

Utopia Must Fall is available now in early access on PC via Steam and is currently on sale for $5.39.
