Street Fighter 6 has now been in the beginning of its Year 4 content swing for just about a week, and the new fighter is doing wonders to encourage new players to get into the fight. While it hasn’t felt like 4 years already, the player base has certainly felt a bit dry the past few months, which tracks according to SteamDB Charts. The Year 4 Launch has seen the number of PC players spike drastically from 20k to almost 70k.

This spike is courtesy of the drop of a new character, the start of a round of four, Yasmine, who brings a much more simple playstyle than some of the current roster, featuring easy-to-understand combos and a welcoming approach for folks. There are some criticisms to be had for Yasmine’s moveset, though a longtime Street Fighter 6 player. I’ve reached out for a comment and reassured me that while her moves are simple and straightforward, “There is still some research that needs to be done in regards to her Level 2 Super and shuriken mix-ups. I hope development in these areas will lead to a more complex character” – ShinLad
I myself have gotten a bit of time in on Yasmine and can agree that getting into her style is simple to start but can, with practice, open up into some truly nasty potential combos with her Karambit and its power states. It might take some time to really find the optimal chains, and then we’ll start seeing some truly incredible sets at tournaments.

All in all, Yasmine is a strong start to the Year 4 roster additions, but I’m personally excited to finally play as Bosch, who isn’t slated to launch till spring of next year at the end of this content cycle. Until then, we have the big man Arjun and the crossover appearance of Tifa Lockheart, though dates for those have not been elaborated on as of yet.
