Earlier this year we had a Gamescom packed with lots of goodies. We even have a few recommendations to keep your eyes on. One of the publishers I’ve been particularly keeping an eye on is Rebellion. It might have something to do with me being a huge fan of Sniper Elite. But the folks at Rebellion prepared more than a new installment in the franchise they’re known for. Enter Atomfall, or as some would call it: British Fallout.
And let’s just say it’s a different kind of animal than the Sniper Elite and Zombie Army franchises that made the developer popular. They’re calling it a “survival-action game […] inspired by real-life events”. The game takes place five years after the events of the “Windscale nuclear disaster in Northern England”. This happened back in 1957 – you have more details about the historical event here. However, we didn’t know much else about it… until last week. The devs published a release date trailer for the game and dove deeper into what’s it about. They also released a dedicated website with more details about the game. Here are their words:
Player Driven Mystery
Inside the quarantine zone, not everything is as it seems. Through exploration, conversation, investigation, and combat you will uncover leads – invaluable information that can help you to piece together what really happened at Windscale. What you do with that information is up to you…
Search, Scavenge, Survive
Nothing is handed to you in the quarantine zone. Craft items and weapons that may save your life. Ransack ruined houses for supplies and unearth hidden treasures using your trusty metal detector. Barter for goods with characters you encounter, or pry what you need from their cold, dead hands.
Desperate Combat
With weapons and ammunition scarce, each frenetic engagement will see you blend marksmanship with vicious hand-to-hand combat. Manage your heart rate to hold a steady aim and ensure you have the energy you need to reach for your cricket bat and land the killer blow.
Green And Unpleasant Land
The picturesque British countryside, with rolling green hills, lush valleys, and rural villages belie the dangers that await you. Navigate cult-controlled ruins, natural caves, nuclear bunkers and more as you explore this dense, foreboding world.
Reimagining Windscale
A fictional reimagining of a real-world event, Atomfall draws from science fiction, folk horror, and Cold War influences to create a world that is eerily familiar yet completely alien.
When Is Atomfall Headed Our Way?
That’s the million-dollar question, right? As mentioned in their recent trailer, we can expect Atomfall to come out on 27th March next year.
Are you a die-hard collector? Then you’ll be happy to hear the game will also have a physical edition. Do you like keeping things neat and tidy in your digital library? Then you might want to go for the digital edition. Or just get both because why not? Not to mention it will be a day one Game Pass game. Here are the platforms we’ll see it debut on:
- Xbox Series X/S
- Xbox One,
- Windows PC and PC via Steam, Rebellion Shop, and Epic Games Store
- PlayStation 5
- PlayStation 4
Does all this info tickle your pickle? Then don’t miss the pre-orders for the Standard and Deluxe editions that are now available. The first one includes a Basic Supply Bundle. Sounds confusing? It just means you’ll get an exclusive melee weapon variant, additional loot caches, and item recipes. The second edition includes all of this and:
– An Enhanced Supply Bundle, including an exclusive pistol variant, a metal detector skin, and a skill manual.
– Access to the story expansion that will be added later.
– A 3-day early unlock for the game.
The Rebellion store has a PC-only Quarantine Edition that includes a T-shirt, the digital soundtrack, a digital graphic novel, and a digital postcard and poster. Check out the FAQ section on their news post for more details you might want to know.
