Through harnessing the power of a parallel plane of existence, a Questor named Haroona is noticed by the powerful organization known as the Ascendants. In a world where everyone is pursuing their version of “good,” Haroona has the power to change reality, and if it falls into the wrong hands, it could be detrimental to this alternate Earth’s reality. In Unknown 9 Awakening, you will harness the power of the fold to thwart a secret society’s efforts to construct their perfect world.
Bandai Namco at PAX West 2024 provided LV1 Gaming with the opportunity to play Unknown 9 Awakening. The first point to stand out is that the game is a semi-linear experience with a blend of stealth and fast action combat. As a Questor or wielder of the fold, Haroona is portrayed by Anya Chalotra, known from Netflix’s The Witcher Series. During the demo, we were able to utilize a wide variety of her abilities. We were able to use a power that allows you to look through walls and see enemies before they see you. The power of the fold also grants you access to your enemies souls! You can briefly turn a pesky Ascendant Sniper into a well-positioned ally and attack your enemies.
The combat flowed, and the areas where the fights take place are large enough to give an open-world feel. There is a solid mix of verticality and enemy variation, and you don’t feel invincible as Haroona. Haroona’s power on the battlefield is not insurmountable. Questor’s abilities made me feel like a Jedi without a lightsaber. But I did die a few times during the demo. But yet, controlling the fight with enemies and environments, such as dropping them off ledges and forcing them to fight each other, created a classic Xbox 360 action game feel.
