Now we have yet another video game adaptation to bring to your attention. We have had news in recent times of a few on the cards or pretty much ready. Now examples we have include the nearly ready for Until Dawn. We’ve also got Dredge on the cards and Fort Solis on the way. It seems we have another on the cards, which could be a surprise. Not only for the game but the game itself is not a new title. So the game itself is The Oregon Trail which has an interesting history
The Oregon Trail is likely to be considered one of the oldest IPs in gaming today. The game originally started as educational software by a trio of student teachers Don Rawitsch, Bill Heinemann, and Paul Dillenberger. Don Rawitsch was the history teacher who started the project and we saw the game back in 1971. How many video game franchises still exist after half a century? I first came across the game in 1984 with the Commodore 64 port of the Atari II release from 1980. The most recent release was the versions that hit last-gen consoles in the past couple of years.
The Oregon Trail Movie Adaptation
According to an article by The Hollywood Reporter, “Will Speck and Josh Gordon are attached to direct with Benj Pasek and Justin Paul producing and providing original music”. What else we can gleam from the article is that the film is being done by Apple and will be an Action Comedy film. The screenplay is set to be handle by “The Lucas Bros. (Judas and the Black Messiah) and Max Reisman”. The article tells us the game was created to “mimic 19th-century pioneer times, following a covered wagon train heading west”. So how this translates to an adaptation will be interesting to see.
