October is upon us and now we start to gear up for the spooky season. Yes, that means a look at some Halloween titles. Now for this spooky season, I thought let’s look at the lesser talked about PC horror games. Though we should know of the upcoming remakes for Until Dawn and Silent Hill 2, it is less likely smaller names in the genre. Some of these PC horror games we’ve covered before and some may well be new to you.
Gamers on PC have a bigger selection of games at their disposal across all genres. So that means looking at a particular genre we have more titles to filter through. Even then we have all the various subgenres such as Survival Horror and Psychological Horror.
PC Horror – A Look At The Smaller Titles
Here are some suggestions for titles available either now or before the end of the month. As said we’ve covered some of these before or even tried the demo out and shared our thoughts with you. So without further ado, let’s get started.
Hollow Body
This is a recent release on Steam and during a previous Next Fest event I gave the demo a try and my thoughts on that can be found here. The store listing states it is a “tech-noir survival horror short story” The game is based on the remains of a “long abandoned British city”. We will need to “solve environmental puzzles, manage limited resources, and fight for a way to escape beyond the wall”.
Zoochosis
Zoochosis we described as a unique horror title has just launched on Steam and is available for an introductory offer until 14th October. The game is another bodycam game in which we play as zookeepers. So we’ll need to identify the animals that have become infected as the infection has started to mutate them. You will need to develop a vaccine and cure all the animals and survive.
The Forever Winter
Want a tactical extraction shooter with a horror theme? The Forever Winter could maybe offer a possible option. The premise of this co-op horror shooter is your squad needs to survive by looting the dead. However, it’s not quite as simple as that. Your enemy as we see on the store listing can tower over you. This is due to the fact that you and your squad are “under the shadow of terrifying and gargantuan war machines locked in a never-ending conflict”. The game is also currently available as an early-access title.
Beyond Hanwell
You may or may not be aware of this game’s predecessor. Welcome to Hanwell launched in October 2017 and was the developer’s first project. However, that game is now free on Steam as we have a sequel in Beyond Hanwell. In the sequel we are exploring Westminster in London as we travel towards the “ruins of Hanwell”. Though on our journey we will encounter an “an ever increasing scourge of Anomalies”. To survive we have to hunt our surroundings for weapons and defend ourselves by using our local environment. It will be interesting to see how this fares on the console as the development of porting it across has already started.
