Jurassic Park Survival Gameplay Reveal – First Person Action at the Original Park

Jurassic Park

Saber Interactive has fully unveiled Jurassic Park Survival this week. The game itself won’t be at Gamescom, but the development team wanted to provide fans with a first look at gameplay footage and a look behind the scenes at development. The game takes place 24 hours after the events of the very first 1993 film Jurassic Park; the setting, art direction, dinosaur designs, and more are all based on the 1993 film. So if you didn’t enjoy the latest Jurassic World films, which changed a lot of those designs and abandoned the original Park, this game seems to be just for you!

Jurassic Park

I am personally a huge Jurassic Park fan. I am 39 years old and saw the first film in theatres back in 1993, which was a religious experience for me. I was already a big fan of dinosaurs and was after any dino content I could find from books, comics, TV shows, and movies, but none of it compared to what I saw that summer of 1993 in theatres. I wasn’t alone in that sentiment, and over 30 years later, the franchise still becomes one of the top-grossing films of the year again and again. Jurassic World Rebirth, released this past July 2025, is already one of the top-grossing films of 2025, making its way to $900 million worldwide. Marvel films currently can’t even hit the $400-500 million mark despite good reviews like for Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts, so to see the Jurassic franchise still clawing its way in the box office shows just how universally loved dinosaurs are and makes the franchise almost critic-proof due to this.

The new video that Saber revealed just yesterday is long and gives a great deal of behind-the-scenes work the team has been doing. This includes concept art (as seen in the image above), visiting Universal Studios vault to get hands-on and scan original props from the 1993 film, storyboards, and much more! There is also a short interview with the actor playing the main character, you control from a first person perspective, Maya Joshi, a scientist who was left behind on Isla Nublar after the initial evacuation. Likely not the only person left behind, Maya will have to find her way off the island or die trying.

Welcome, Welcome Back to Jurassic Park

Gameplay seems to focus on exploration, wayfinding using maps in a similar way to Far Cry 2 where you have to manually go to your map on your 1993 era PDA (anyone remember Palm Pilots?) and orient yourself to where you have to go. We also see Maya using a flashlight to find her way and using darkness and cover to evade dinosaurs. There were many moments during the gameplay reveal that showed Maya being chased by Velociraptors, the Tyrannosaurs Rex, Dilophosarus, and more!

Jurassic Park

If you played Saber’s A Quiet Place game from last year, it seems to be attempting a similar gameplay style but on a much grander scale. I really enjoyed the gameplay in A Quiet Place that had you always being conscious of what material you were walking on, how fast you were running, brushing up against things and knocking them over, and more. In the video, they say how they want to recreate the kitchen scene, so this type of gameplay would fit perfectly as you silently make your way around the kitchen, being conscious not to knock down a ladle or two.

Over 30 Years Later…

Another big part of this game reveal was the work the team is doing to bring to life areas of Jurassic Park that were mentioned or seen briefly in the original film. They revealed the Park’s Hotel for guests as an example; it can be seen on the slideshow and on the pamphlet in the movie, but it was never seen. Now, in the concept art you see below, the team has recreated this Hotel area that we will also explore. For die-hard fans like myself, this is a dream come true to finally explore these never-before-seen parts of Jurassic Park. The reality is that the original Park was only seen twice in all 7 films, the original 1993 movie, and for a brief moment at the now decaying Visitor Centre in 2017’s Jurassic World. It is crazy to think that so much original source material has been left on the table for decades. Just this year’s Jurassic World Rebirth used the raft scene from the first novel that Steven Spielberg storyboarded for the 1993 original, too, but never made it to screen. That original movie, the places it mentions and we never see, the novel’s setpieces, and so much more have been ready for artists and creators like Saber to finally build upon over 30 years later.

Jurassic Park

I am extremely excited to see where the game lands. The team has been very clear that there is no release date, and they are in no rush to release; it is not tied to a movie release or anything of that sort. There have been teases of merchandise for the game, and with Mattel and other companies creating amazing Jurassic figures for both kids and adult collectors, I am sure we will see something from them as well!
