In the current gaming landscape, every major release from a franchise I love is always met with skepticism and doubt from my fanboy brain or the masses. The announcement of Veilguard/Dreadwolf was one of those situations. As someone who has played the DA series almost biyearly since 2009, my expectations were through the roof with the announcement. Can I romance Scout Harding? Is the Keep website still active? Is Morrigan still carrying my illegitimate child that I cheated on Leliana to have? And most importantly, will I finally understand the rhetoric of the Chantry?

Where have you been Dragon Age?
The Dragon Age games have always existed outside the realm of the zeitgeist in my social circles. Sure, people have heard of them or probably played, but another Bioware series like Mass Effect always seemed to be more relevant. So, reading that the Inquisition massively outsold expectations was great to see. Along with that, all recent hands-on and impressions from the press have been glowing.
Every entry in the series brought new gameplay systems or styles that weren’t copies of the original game. The first title being more old school and working off of a framework like KOTOR, and the second title moving more towards action RPG. And the third finding is a mix of the two. Some lauded this, but I’m someone who was always okay with the differences in gameplay styles between all of the games. The style of gameplay shown so far is alright with me.
For me, my main concern is how can Veilguard tell a story that can make all of my previous choices feel relevant or seen. I was skeptical of Veilguard for a time, but nah. I’m done with that. It’s okay for me (or you) to be excited about a new game in your favorite franchise. But seriously, what did Morrigan name my illegitimate child? And did Leliana ever find out?
