LV1 Gaming made its way to the Consumer Electronics Show 2025 (CES 2025) in Las Vegas, Nevada. This was our first time attending this historic convention and it definitely lives up to all of the hype. We were lucky enough to get a chance to sit down with the folks over at Hyperkin and talk about their upcoming products for gamers. The product that took over the internet “The Competitor”, was there on display and available for us to try out on an Xbox Series S.
Hyperkin is a business that makes gaming hardware. They focus on making consoles and accessories for gamers of all ages. Also, they make a lot of different kinds of home entertainment products easy and comfortable to use. With fun, new, and different products like the RetroN console series and the mini SupaBoy series, Hyperkin is a leader in the retro and modern entertainment business.
Features of The Competitor

- DualSense Shaped Wired Xbox Series X|S Controller
- Hall Effect Joysticks and Triggers
- Lockable Back Buttons
- No Official Price As of Yet, But Intended For The Average Gamer (Don’t Expect Premium Controller Prices)
- Planning for a Q2 Release
- Will Have Two Designs, All Black & White and Black
The Hyperkin team made it clear during our conversation that they did not build this controller with the core Xbox gamers in mind. The Competitor was designed to give established PlayStation gamers a comfortable and familiar gaming experience on Xbox Game Pass and PC gaming. DualSense owners often run into issues and have to find workarounds when using their controller on a PC. So Hyperkin, being forward-thinking, created an easy-wired solution for those who enjoy PC gaming and Xbox Game Pass but don’t prefer the Xbox-designed controller.
While testing The Competitor on a Series X and playing Dead Cells, another thought crossed my mind. This controller may be a popular option for Xbox fighting genre gamers. Although I don’t have a strong interest in the genre, I understand that a DualSense-style D-Pad would simplify the use of combos for me. Overall, with its clever name, official Xbox approval, and design to bridge the gap between multiplatform gamers who prefer PlayStation-designed controllers, it’s safe to assume that The Competitor will be a hit when it releases.

Also, some other key products on display from Hyperkin at CES 2025 were their upcoming line of controllers and cases featuring official Anime IPs. They are the only 3rd party gaming peripheral company with rights to Frieren-themed products. They had multiple Switch controllers and cases featuring iconic characters from the popular anime.
