At the start of last year, Ubisoft was the main news for a good period of time. Unfortunately, it was a series of events that led us asking what had gone wrong at the company. The year did improve with some major releases. We saw Assassin’s Creed Mirage, The Crew Motorfest, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. They also gave us Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown as well as Skull And Bones. However, the pirate adventure is not a big success story. With all this in mind, we still have a couple of franchises we are wondering what is next as have an idea of the future of The Division. One is Splinter Cell and another is Ghost Recon.
Ubisoft is seemingly remaking Splinter Cell however we are unsure where that lies. Ghost Recon however changed its approach with the last couple of releases, taking the franchise into a full open-world setting. The games were Wildlands and Breakpoint which was the less popular with a lot of fans. We know it’s coming as we have a codename for the game. This is meant to be Project Over as mentioned in a recent article by Insider Gaming.
What Do We Know About The Next Ghost Recon
So Insider Gaming did talk about this project a few weeks ago. What we heard was that it was due in either 2025 or 2026 and would be set “during the fictional Naiman War”. Now it seems they have some anonymous sources who have revealed some information about the game. This is what was said by Tom Henderson in his article for Insider Gaming.
Currently, the next Ghost Recon title is aimed to be released in 2025 – 2026 which will see the Ghost Recon franchise head back into a first-person perspective. The game is poised to be a squad-based military tactical shooter – almost milsim-like in nature – that will also take inspiration from some of the leading first-person military games including the Modern Warfare series, Battlefield, Squad, and Ready or Not.
Project Over is set during the Naiman War which is located in a hostile southeast country that has seen hundreds of thousands of people die as a result of war crimes. It’s understood that the plot of the game evolves around the ‘Ghosts’ – your team – infiltrating the warzone to carry out secret missions and to locate a traitor.
He later adds the game is not shying away from controversial missions, very similar to what has been seen in the Modern Warfare campaigns. He describes one mission as an example. The mission has your squad nearly opening fire at a man with a baby as their first thought was the man had a bomb until the last moments. Visually we can expect an improvement visually compared to the previous entries. He also said the game is ” best compared to something akin to Ready or Not”. With Ubisoft yet to reveal more on the next game in The Division Heartland and a release date for Star Wars Outlaws and the Avatar expansions, we may see more on this Ghost Recon project in an upcoming Ubisoft Forward event. Please remember this is all just a rumor at this stage.
