We are approaching the end of March and it won’t be long before the revamped E3 event takes place. The last time we had a normal E3 showcase was back in 2019. In 2020, due to the pandemic, the world came to a standstill, and this will be the first year that E3 has returned in a proper sense. Games Radar released a schedule last week detailing what we know so far, but I anticipate that the information will be vastly different by the time summer rolls around.
It remains to be seen what major companies like Sony and Microsoft have in store for us. Sony hasn’t had a physical event in a few years, and it’s unclear whether they will be participating in E3 2023. Similarly, it’s uncertain whether Microsoft will be holding an E3 showcase in Los Angeles. So, while there is much anticipation surrounding E3 2023, there are still many unanswered questions about what we can expect from the event.
Ubisoft has announced that they will be attending E3 2023, which was confirmed by their CEO Yves Guillemot. On the other hand, Nintendo has confirmed that they will not be attending the event, as they feel it does not suit their schedule. They have also stated that their big release will have already launched assuming there are no delays. As for Sony, they will not be present, which is not surprising. With Sony and Nintendo not attending, all eyes are on Microsoft. It remains to be seen if their upcoming showcase, which will include a Starfield deep dive, will be part of the event.
Microsoft Attending E3 2023 Digitally
There were reports that Microsoft was going to follow the lead of Sony and Nintendo, and now Eurogamer has confirmed that Microsoft will not have a physical presence at this year’s Summer Showcase. The Xbox and Bethesda event will be streamed as part of E3 Digital, which runs from June 11th to 17th. We don’t know what Sony will do, but it’s likely they’ll hold a separate State of Play event.
It’s interesting to see that neither Sony, Microsoft, nor Nintendo will be present at the first main E3 since 2019. This could suggest a shift in the industry away from physical events and towards digital showcases. It remains to be seen if E3 Digital will become the future of the showcase, but it’s certainly a possibility. Overall, this news highlights the changing landscape of the gaming industry and the need for companies to adapt to new ways of presenting their products and engaging with fans.
