Puzzle game fans have plenty to celebrate, especially those familiar with the Talos Principle series. We previously reviewed its acclaimed sequel, The Talos Principle 2 (check out the review [here]), but the story didn’t end there. The game also received an expansion, Road to Elysium, which added even more layers to its rich and thought-provoking world.
As a longtime fan of the original, I thoroughly enjoyed the sequel and its creative puzzles. So, why are we returning to this franchise now? While exploring the official PlayStation YouTube channel, I came across an intriguing trailer for The Talos Principle: Reawakened. Naturally, it caught my attention immediately.
But what exactly is The Talos Principle: Reawakened about? Are we seeing a new installment or prequel to the original game? After all, the franchise is now ten years old. Well, from watching the trailer, I saw it’s classed as a remaster of the original game from back in 2014. Or is it? Remastered releases generally increase resolution and sometimes clean up textures.
The Talos Principle: Reawakened And What We Get
Several sites have since covered the news and from the trailer we see it is more a remaster in the vein of Dead Rising or Horizon Zero Dawn. The original game and it’s Road to Gehenna DLC have been rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5. Though if you remember this is the engine used for the sequel. Now an article by Dark Side of Gaming tells us the original game used “Croteam’s Serious Engine”. We also get told this remaster will “have enhanced lighting, textures, and environmental design”.

Not only do we get the original game and DLC rebuilt with quality-of-life improvements but we get new content. If you’re curious about what new content we get we can give a brief description of “In the Beginning” This is a prequel chapter explaining how the simulation started along with its first challenges. We don’t know when the game is out or pricing or if there is any discount for owners of the original. But we do have the PC requirements as well which may change closer to release.
