Over the course of the past year, the talk of publishers and developers has been a hot-button topic in the gaming industry. From sony buying Bungie to Microsoft acquiring Bethesda, things have been happening one step after another. Today was no different as it was announced that Embracer Group had made a deal with Square Enix to acquire Crytal Dynamics & Eidos Montreal. This purchase adds a catalog of IPs such as Tomb Raider and Deux Ex, to be part of our ecosystem. This acquisition also left those wondering about Xbox exclusive Perfect Dark.
Not too long ago, it was announced that Crytal Dynamics would be working side by side with The Initiative developing this title. With The Initiative being a new and much smaller studio it’s easy to figure that Crystal Dynamics is taking up the majority of the workload. With that in mind, it did not take The Initiative’s official Twitter handle to release a statement in regards to the anticipated title.
Although Crytal Dynamics will have a new reporting structure this acquisition seems to not have any effect on Perfect Dark. This is a sigh of relief due to the recent reports of the studio having some notable development issues with key developers leaving the studio. Perfect Dark will move forward the Crystal Dynamics continuing to play a big role in its development.
