PlayStation 3 Gets Surprise Update

PlayStation 3

As we begin the second quarter of 2023, we consider the state of the gaming industry and observe that the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 have been available for three years. Sony recently made a surprise software upgrade announcement, but it wasn’t for their existing systems. Instead, they made a PlayStation 3 upgrade available.

Many people believe that the PlayStation 3 is a relic of the past, a console that has long since been replaced by newer models. After all, Sony has already stopped providing maintenance assistance for the item, which was initially released in November 2006. It makes sense that many would believe the console is gone forever.

In light of this, it was unexpected when Sony released a fresh software update for the PlayStation 3, a machine that hasn’t been manufactured in over a decade. Many were taken aback by the upgrade, which appeared sixteen years after the console’s debut. Some reports believe that Sony is trying to revive the gadget with this move, while others question whether this is really the PlayStation 3’s last act. Whatever Sony’s intentions, it is certain that this statement has generated some little excitement in the gaming industry.

Why Update The PlayStation 3

Sony dropped update 4.90 out of the blue. If you’re wondering what we’re getting in this update don’t expect much. They did change a bit with 4.89 with account management features being removed and a news for device password. The new update is simply “This system software update improves system performance”. So what are your thoughts? Are you still using a PlayStation 3 for the odd game? As always we’d love to hear your thoughts on this. So why not get in touch and let us know what you think.. Maybe Sony still realise fans want console support after the store issue.
