Eric Barone is probably a name a lot of you haven’t heard, though maybe ConcernedApe will be more familiar. For those still in the dark, this is the creative force behind the mega-hit Stardew Valley. It’s a farming game with some RPG elements and funnily enough, it’s one I returned to play a short while ago. It’s a game that when I finally sat down and got stuck in discovered how underrated it is. Today the focus isn’t on our simple farming adventures but on what comes next from Eric. Haunted Chocolatier is a game we have known about for a little bit and fans of Stardew Valley have been waiting for. We even have some early gameplay from a couple of years ago.

An article recently released by GamesRadar tells us what Barone plans for the future of Haunted Chocolatier. We see it’s meant to have some similar aspects to Stardew Valley but offer a brand-new experience. This will be “putting greater focus on combat and will be closer to an action RPG”.

Fans wonder as the Summer period of 2024 is close, will we see any major news updates? In this regard, it seems some digging and looking into the development history can help if we look back at an update from December 2021

Hi, everyone

I’ve been doing a lot of work on Haunted Chocolatier, and making good progress. Mostly, I’m working on core elements of the game. I will be doing this for a while. I don’t really feel like sharing much, because I’d rather let the game be a surprise than reveal everything. I just like working in secret.

However, I still want to check in and let you all know that I am working on this game all the time and making progress.

Merry Christmas

Haunted Chocolatier- When Are You Coming?

We know since that initial reveal a lot of focus has been put back on Stardew Valley and it has the 1.6 update on the way for consoles. However, an interview by Aftermath with Eric Barone tells us he’s ready to return to his new title and the reason is simple, he wants to.

[Fan expectation] definitely puts pressure on me, but it’s better to have a delayed game that’s actually good than a bad game that’s on time. When it’s ready, that’s when I’ll release it. I’m not too concerned with the pressure. I don’t feel like I owe anyone anything when it comes to Haunted Chocolatier. It’s a game that I’m deciding to make. I don’t need to make it.

Fans eagerly awaiting the next project have mixed news. The bad news is we have nothing new to add, on the flip side the good news it is still coming and will be launched when he thinks it’s ready. We do have some screenshots from the last post on Twitter/X regarding the upcoming game.

We can all agree that delaying to make the game you truly want is never a bad thing. With Eric’s drive and dedication to Stardew Valley it is no question that we have to trust him on this and the game will be ready when it is ready.
