A new year has just arrived but E3 2022 is still in the thoughts of a few minds. The conference for 2020 was ultimately canceled due to the Covid pandemic and while last year’s event went on, it was an online-only affair. Thankfully, gamers still received a lot of news via Summer Games Fest with Geoff Keighley. For those wondering how we felt that event went, then look no further.
There was hope we would see a more normal E3 2022 with people allowed to return. However, the Entertainment Software Association has moved this year’s event to online only. The reason for this is the concerns with the pandemic once more, especially the new omicron variant. The Entertainment Software Association gave GamesBeat the following statement.
Due to the ongoing health risks surrounding COVID-19 and its potential impact on the safety of exhibitors and attendees, E3 will not be held in person in 2022. We remain incredibly excited about the future of E3 and look forward to announcing more details soon
What we will experience instead
So this shift in presentation means E3 2022 will mirror last year. But it’s will it be a digital event like Summer Games Fest or several mini showcases spread out. As it stands there is no official date for the showcase. An unusual step as dates for events is normally known well in advance. This event usually takes months to plan for and prepare. It was also expected to return to LA this year. However since the mayor of LA. Eric Garcetii spoke of the event’s return last year, the ESA has been quiet. Hopefully, they provided more info soon such as dates and if it’s an online showcase. But what are your thoughts on this? Do you agree with the decision? As always, get in touch and share your thoughts as we love hearing from you.
