Horror fans are being spoiled when it comes to gaming. Following the formation of studios such as Maverick Games or Wildlight Entertainment, we have yet another studio to tell you about. This one however is coming from quite a unique origin as we introduce Blumhouse Games. Unlike other studios being made of former staff from big studios like Playground Games or Respawn, Blumhouse is coming from a movie studio.
Blumhouse Games are a part of Blumhouse Productions. If you’re not aware of this multimedia company there is an article by Bloody Disgusting explaining a little bit more. Blumhouse Productions is the horror giant that has given us many amazing horror films in recent times. With their most recent film being M3gan. However, they are also the same company behind The Purge, Paranormal Activity, Sinister, and Insidious, as well as Jordan Peele’s amazing catalog.
Blumhouse Games. What We Know So Far
Blumhouse Games are currently planning to work with independent game developers. The aim of this partnership is to bring this “creative vision to life via original, horror-themed games for console, PC, and mobile audiences”. They are also targeting indie-budget games with a budget of under $10M. The new studio’s president is Zach Wood. Wood had previously worked on the Mooncrash DLC for PREY, The Unfinished Swan Bound, and Redfall.
So we have a director with a pedigree and a studio keen to bring quality indie horror to gamers. Some smaller horror titles can be some of the most terrifying. Look at games like Visage, Indicted, or even Phasmophobia. I for one will be very interested in what games they come up with. However what about you? What do you think of this news? As always we’d love to hear your thoughts on this story. So why not get in touch with us and have your say?
