Black Ops 6 Multiplayer – Does It Stand Up

Black Ops 6

We finally see the Call of Duty games arriving on Game Pass, albeit slowly. The first we saw was the third installment of the reboot of the Modern Warfare franchise. Now we have the new Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on Game Pass and that launched into the service just recently. The game is the first to arrive on Game Pass day of launch. Upon launching the game we have three options of game mode to choose from. These are the Multiplayer Mode, Zombies, and the Campaign. So today we are focusing on the main Multiplayer mode.

This mode has the general Core mode, so you can see a mini-map for example. It also has a Hardcore mode so you have no mini-map, one shot kill, and can accidentally kill teammates. We have the usual modes along the lines of Team Deathmatch, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed and Domination. For movement Black Ops 6 features omnimovement. This may not mean much to some of you so feel free to see here to find out what this actually means. So to sum it up you have more freedom of movement when sprinting, sliding, and diving.

Black Ops 6 And How The Multiplayer Feels

Well after a few hours playing it alone and with a friend, I had chance to test out both the Hardcore and Core modes. If you’re used to Modern Warfare 3 then this for the multiplayer plays a little differently. The new Omnimovement does change how the game feels. So let’s break the game down a little more. We won’t be looking at the campaign here just the main multiplayer aspect to the game. All footage in this review as stated in the video below was captured on a Xbox Series X.

Graphics

One thing we can expect is a very detailed environment with the franchise. From buildings and various assets, the game mostly looks as crisp as you would expect. Though naturally, the campaign will offer a stronger visual presentation, this is expected. When in water it still is harder to see which is a shame but the amount of time I was in the water was very small. Some maps it seems has lower-quality assets in what appear to be lesser-used areas of the map. You don’t really notice it for example in a frantic Team Deathmatch game. Though standing still or walking slowly you notice it more. With other areas of higher quality visually this was somewhat of a surprise.

Gameplay

The game feels faster-paced than the previous titles, and the gunplay is probs early on not as good as Modern Warfare 3. However, that could be down to weapons and how they are set up. Though I did play the beta for this and the gunplay feels more balanced than the beta so we see changes have been made. But the big gameplay change though is the new omnimovement and for multiplayer that is very different. You can lie on your back and aim down a corridor or dive or slide sideways. It really adds to competitive gameplay and I’ve benefitted from the new gameplay as well as suffering from it. Below is an example of Gameplay captured across both Core and Hardcore modes.

Multiplayer

There are two modes at play. We have Core and Hardcore. Let’s start with Core. We have the score and mini-map showing on the UI and we can see our score streaks and how close we are to unlocking them for the game. We also can’t accidentally kill a teammate. Believe me in Hardcore you’re on a run of kills and doing well and being blown up by a friendly grenade is really frustrating. Hardcore we have none of these, we can’t see a map unless revealed by UAV for example. We can also be guilty of that rogue grenade throw. Compared to Modern Warfare 3 I have experienced far fewer accidental team kills.

Now for the modes. Core offers the following

  • Team Deathmatch
  • Kill Order
  • Domination
  • Hardpoint
  • Search and Destroy
  • Control
  • Headquarters
  • Kill Confirmed
  • Free for All

For the Hardcore modes we have

  • Team Deathmatch
  • Kill Order
  • Domination
  • Hardpoint
  • Search and Destroy
  • Kill Confirmed
  • Free for All
  • Face Off Moshpit

As for the maps available we have a wide selection and the 6v6 maps we have are as follows.

  • Babylon
  • Derelict
  • Lowtown
  • Payback
  • Protocol
  • Redcard
  • Rewind
  • Scud
  • Skyline
  • Subsonic
  • Vault
  • Vorkuta

But thats not all as the well known Nuketown will be here on 1st November. But we have more to add as the Strike Maps (2v2/6v6 Face Off) include the following.

  • Gala
  • Pit
  • Stakeout
  • Warhead

A Conclusion

This is a huge leap forward from what we got when Modern Warfare 3 launched. I have maps I enjoy playing presently and maps I really don’t enjoy. Nukehouse will be a popular addition when it arrives at the start of November. The key is the support it gets with new weapons and maps as the game grows. Modern Warfare 3 added some popular Modern Warfare 2 maps so could we see some Cold War maps? Overall it’s a solid start to the game’s lifespan. What are your thoughts on this release? Are you enjoying it? As always why not share your views as we love hearing what you have to say?
