Atari frees Multiple Legacy IP from Ubisoft

When you hear the name Ubisoft, you will be met with a few recurring names from their current catalog. Such as The Division 2, Prince of Persia, Rainbow 6: Siege, Far Cry, and most notably Assassin’s Creed. But many a year ago, they used to crank out multiple smaller and more memorable titles. One personal favorite of mine is Child of Light, but there are so many more games under their umbrella, and thanks to Atari, weirdly enough, a handful of them might be making a major comeback.

Thanks to an article from Businesswire, we learned that Atari has reached an agreement with Ubisoft to buy IP rights to 5 legacy IPs that Ubisoft has not touched in nearly a decade or two. Here are the games and what you need to know about them.

What Game IPs did Ubisoft sell to Atari?

In the article, it is stated that Atari acquired all intellectual property (IP) rights to the following games:

  • Cold Fear
  • I Am Alive
  • Child of Eden
  • Grow Home
  • Grow Up

Wade Rosen, the Chairman and CEO of Atari, had this to say in the article:

“Ubisoft and Atari both have a legacy of crafting worlds that players can fall in love with — games that resonate with generations of players not just for how they played, but for how they made us feel. We’re excited to reintroduce these titles while also exploring ways to expand and evolve these franchises.”

Atari will also be re-releasing these titles with potentially new content through “updated formats”. This is something to celebrate, as older titles such as these deserve proper preservation and availability to modern audiences. How long it will take to see the fruits of Atari’s labor is unknown right now, but it is still very exciting to see Ubisoft letting Atari take the reins of games they have not done anything with since they released.
