It seems a while since we got our hands on Alan Wake 2. In fact, if you’re interested our review for the game can be found here. So what is bringing this game back into our thoughts? Well firstly, we have the new expansion, The Lake House launching very soon. In fact, by the time you’re reading this, the expansion could well be available. Not only that but the game is receiving some updates in the form of the Anniversary Update.
What will we see in the Anniversary Update for Alan Wake 2? Let’s look at a recent blog post provided by Remedy and break it down. Firstly they tell us the following for this update and as we see, the good news it’s going to be free for all players
All players will be able to download the Anniversary Update for free, and it contains our biggest addition to quality of life and accessibility options to the game to date. The features we’ve included are those that have been frequently requested by the community.
What The Anniversary Update Offers
We have a series of big changes to start with and this is just the beginning. So without further ado let’s hand you back over to Remedy to explain the start of the changes.
First, one of the most requested options included in the Anniversary Update is the ability to invert the X (horizontal) axis on mouse and controller, and not just the Y (vertical) axis. Inverting either axis can be a matter of preference, but for a lot of players it also presents a usability and accessibility issue.
PlayStation players can look forward to some improvements we’ve made for the DualSense controller. With the Anniversary Update, Alan Wake 2 will have gyro aiming (motion controls) support. You can turn the motion sensor function on and off, as well as tweak horizontal and vertical sensitivity, set gyro space, and choose whether your pitch, yaw, and roll directions are standard or inverted.
Until now, Alan Wake 2 only had haptics support for weapons, but we’re happy to say that the team has been working hard to improve and refine haptics on the DualSense. From now on, haptics will also work with healing items and throwables.
So we see can invert the axis on the game as well as support for gyro aiming and a much-improved support for the DualSense controller. However that’s not all the changes, we have more to tell you about. If we look at the gameplay assist options these new toggles will be available to players
- Quick turn
- Autocomplete QTE
- Button tapping to a single tap
- Weapon charging with taps
- Healing items with taps
- Lightshifter with taps
- Player invulnerability
- Player immortality
- One shot kill
- Infinite ammo
- Infinite flashlight batteries
Now For The Alan Wake 2 PlayStation 5 Pro Enhanced Features
Not only is the game getting some serious quality-of-life changes, but we will see new hardware support. This is to take advantage of what the PlayStation 5 Pro can bring to the table when it launches next month. IGN has a couple of trailers showing you what they look like visually and we will explain what is different.
On both the current PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X/S the game has two modes. We have a performance mode and a quality mode. So now both of these modes have been upgraded for Sony’s new hardware. The existing Quality mode is now going to be the Pro Performance mode and offers the same 4K resolution with approximately the same image quality. Where before the mode was 30 FPS it will now run at 60 FPS. The new quality mode will run at 30 FPS and 4K. Though now consoles can experience ray tracing in the game as we in the video above. The performance mode can be seen below.
