Back in 2016, the studio behind the PlayStation 4 racer Driveclub was shut down by Sony. Evolution Studios were also responsible for MotorStorm. The staff moved on and the director of Driveclub has since moved on with a new studio that has a new game in the pipeline.
Paul Rustchynsky moved on after Evolution studios was shut down. The new studio is part of Avalanche and opened in Liverpool last year. He also revealed via Twitter this new title is a brand new IP and one of many titles Avalanche is working on.
What is following Driveclub
Rustchynsky also confirmed on Twitter that the new title isn’t a racing game either.
In 2022 we’ll get to announce the game we’ve been working on for the past year.
We’re working on another new IP that’s yet to be announced. There are more projects being worked on at Avalanche than most people would expect!
To set some expectations, I’m not working on a racing game.
So sorry, no DRIVECLUB sequel, MotorStorm successor or ONRUSH offshoot. It sseems Driveclub 2 won’t be happening
Prior to the closure, Rustchynsky was involved with Onrush with Codemasters and several MotorStorm games. Rustchynsky joined Avalanche along with some former Evolution Studios employees. What do you make of this news? The fact the next title isn’t a racer is a surprising chain of events. As it stands the only PlayStation racer is the upcoming Gran Turismo. The seventh installment of that franchise as we know is out in March. The only other racing title is the GT Sport spin-off. So please get in touch and let us know what you feel about this change of direction.
