Video game adaptations are seeing success as of late. Amazon Prime gave us Fallout which was a huge hit. It even boosted the sales of older Fallout games. Before that, we saw HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us. We’ve also seen Twisted Metal successfully make its way into a streaming service. Not only for television, there is news of Just Cause and Fort Solis being turned into movies. Now we have news of another franchise being adapted for the small screen. Amazon Prime Video hopes to follow in the footsteps of Fallout with a Yakuza Like a Dragon TV show. This can be shown in the post on Twitter/X below.

So from that post, we can see the world of the Yakuza franchise is not far from its small-screen debut. We have an October release date for the upcoming show. With a release date not too far away, we can hopefully get more insight into the show in the form of a trailer. The games primarily focus on the story of Kazuma Kiryu. We have seen Ichiban Kasuga introduced in the seventh game Like a Dragon and returning for Infinite Wealth. So what do we know in regard to the upcoming show?

Like A Dragon: Yakuza On Amazon Prime

According to Eurogamer we know the person directing the series as well as the actor in the lead role. Ryoma Takeuchi who has a cameo in Detective Pikachu is to play Kazuma Kiryu. For those curious about the director, this is being directed by Masaharu Take. The same article states the series will take place in 1995 and 2005. It will follow “the life, childhood friends, and repercussions of the decisions of Kazuma Kiryu”. The original Yakuza game takes place in 2005. Yakuza Zero would just preceed this series taking place in 1988/89.
