On Xbox Wire, Paul Eng, Senior Program Manager at Xbox discussed the FPS boost backward compatible games will receive. In other words, with the new consoles out and with no updates needed, gamers have the ability to double and even sometimes quadruple the framerates on select titles.
The first titles to support the FPS Boost starting today are Far Cry 4, New Super Lucky’s Tale, Sniper Elite 4, UFC 4, and Watch Dogs 2. These titles according to Eng, were chosen because they showcase the different ways the framerate increase can improve the gaming experience. For example, UFC 4 can now run at 60fps. While New Super Lucky’s Tale can run up to 120fps.
In the future, you will be able to manage the FPS Boost in the compatibility options.
“You decide how you want to play your favorite games, whether in its original form or with FPS Boost.”
Paul Eng, Senior Program Manager at Xbox
It needs to be mentioned that FPS boost is also available for those titles on Game Pass. Meaning you don’t have to own those titles to experience the framerate increase. More games that will be boost supported will be announced in the future.
