In 2019, we were treated to World War Z, an intriguing film-to-game conversion developed and published by Saber Interactive. It’s a very different game to their upcoming conversion with iLLOGIKA which is A Quiet Place. It may be nearly four years old, but it seems this zombie title is back on the menu, so to speak. We’ve already seen one expansion, which was the Aftermath DLC. At launch, this offered some new content, such as locations, weapons, and more.

At the time of its release, World War Z was a cooperative third-person shooter based on the film starring Brad Pitt. The hordes of zombies attacking was one feature that quickly distinguished the game. There are easily hundreds of zombies on the screen. When Aftermath launched, they added a new first-person gameplay mode to the game very much in the style of Grand Theft Auto when that appeared on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. So what brings this game back into the headlines?

World War Z In 2023

It seems Saber Interactive isn’t done with their co-op zombie shooter, as it’s receiving an upgrade. Owners of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S are getting a native upgrade for their respective platforms. That means Xbox Series X and PlayStation owners can enjoy the zombie carnage in 4K at 60FPS. The changes on Xbox Series S have yet to be released, though. That’s not all, as they posted an announcement on Twitter.

Later this month, we’ll see a new Horde XL mode with more zombies on screen. IGN covered this and revealed the new Horde will have over 1,000 zombies. This new update is said to offer “deadly new weapons” and a revision to the weapon progression system. Will this be enough to tempt you back into playing again or picking up a copy?
