Wizards of the Coast Brings Dungeons & Dragons to Fortnite

Dungeons & Dragons is coming to Fortnite as a series of fan-made islands. These islands have been designed by long-time fans at Chartis and Teravision Games. They’re two of the biggest creators of Fortnite Islands and the brains behind Zombie Escape Tag and Havoc Hotel, so this collaboration is in good hands.

Folks that are either veterans or completely new to Fortnite and D&D will be able to visit iconic locations in the Forgotten Realms, including the Yawning Portal tavern, the Spine of the World mountains, Mount Hotenow, and much more. They will also be able to battle with legends like Klauth the Ancient Red Dragon and Valindra Shadowmantle. This has been designed as part of a “launch and learn” initiative that looks to merge the worlds of Fortnite and D&D to introduce the game to new players.

Nick Strann, Franchise Strategy Director for Dungeons & Dragons at Wizards of the Coast, said the following:

“We’re bringing the spirit of D&D homebrew to Fortnite – supporting creators, experimenting in new mediums, and learning how we can introduce D&D to new players. D&D already means so much to all those who have joined us at the table, and we hope that we can make it just as meaningful for millions of Fortnite fans. We very much look forward to hearing player feedback on these creator-made islands and using that feedback to shape future adventures wherever people love D&D.”

It’s Cool to See Which Way Each Generation Discovers This Game

I’ve been playing Dungeons & Dragons since the Revised 3rd Edition, and it gets me stoked that Wizards of the Coast has found more ways to get folks into the game. The 5th Edition streamlined things to make the game incredibly newbie accessible. The one-two combo of Stranger Things incorporating Dungeons & Dragons into the show, and the recent drop of their official collab, Welcome to the Hellfire Club, has helped bring the game back into the cultural zeitgeist. I think this upcoming collaboration with Fortnite will solidify it.
