It’s not uncommon to hear talk about the next Sony showcase event or as they are more commonly called State of Play well ahead of its appearance. So, it transpires the next presentation could possibly take place this month. However, these rumors can appear from all kinds of sources. Therefore, working out which are the more legitimate claims isn’t as straightforward. Also, a presentation would make sense with the recent leaks regarding the next steps for Kratos in God of War Ragnarök. This was regarding potential release dates for Kratos making his full PlayStation 5 debut.
A recent article by Gamereactor seems to back up this story. Consequently what they have said is this State of Play is not only this month, but it’s likely to be much closer than people realize. This is how they broke this story earlier today.
Four of my usually very reliable sources at Sony and one outside of the company told me last month that a new PlayStation State of Play or Showcase stream has been planned for this week. One of the reasons why I haven’t shared this with you before is that some developers who are set to show off their games in the show and even some at PlayStation Studios have asked for the show to be delayed because they don’t want to take the spotlight away from the awful stuff happening right now.Gamereactor discussing what could be the next State of Play
The delay would be due to the ongoing situation in Ukraine and naturally, it makes sense. Nonetheless, it seems Sony has something planned, but the reason it’s only coming to light now is due to current world events. A delay also seems understandable, however, we have no indication when events in Ukraine will become more peaceful.
The Reasons Sony Could Have Something In The Works
We have already had Horizon Forbidden West launch and Gran Turismo 7 has hit the tracks. So why would Kratos be key to a State of Play? Well, the next God of War is the next big PlayStation exclusive with no release date. Would Sony be putting a showcase for Stray which also has no date? It’s possible but God of War is undoubtedly a bigger franchise for Sony. We also are awaiting details on Pragmata, but that is due next year. It is also unlikely they’ll be talking about the recent delay for Forspoken.
Another Sony move is their answer to the Xbox Game Pass. All we know is the name is currently called Project Spartacus. This is the supposed merging of PS Now into PS Plus and set to have a tiered structure. It also seems Jeff Grubb feels the service is close to launching. He discussed this in his recent podcast which was transcribed by VGC. If so, then the State of Play would be a good event to announce something of this size. Whatever the case, it may be worth keeping an eye out for updates
