Last month we brought you news of several games shutting down. Not all of these were games but a service. This affected those who game on the Wii U and the 3DS. After this month the storefronts for that respective hardware will be shut down.

What we said at the time was that: “After 10 years it means that you won’t be able to purchase digital games for either system. You also won’t be able to purchase in-game content, download demos or free-to-play software, redeem download codes, or add funds to your account on the 3DS or Wii U. You still have time to gather as many downloadable games as you can in your virtual arms and flee. After the March 2023 deadline, you will also be able to re-download purchased content for an unspecified period”.

VGC picked up a rather interesting story that follows from these upcoming store closures. It also brings to the news a YouTube content creator. The person in question is Jirard Khalil or as hes’ known The Completionist. He claims the entire collection on the storefronts totals 866 Wii U games and 1547 3DS games. That’s a few games to work your way through that’s for sure. The article states that “this equated to 1.2 TB of Wii U games and 267 GBs of 3DS games, DsiWare and DLC”. It may not seem the storage needed is that great but the games take up less space. Polygon says for example “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild needs 13 GB of space on the Wii U”.

How He Knows The Number Of Games On The Store For Wii U and 3DS

VGC claims that he bought every single game in the store. The entire collection cost $22,791/£18,715 and took a year to complete. That is serious dedication indeed. He even has a video talking about his feat.

We know that the store’s close on March 27th. Sadly after this date, we won’t be able to access the store to purchase any of these titles. VGC analysis adds that nearly 1000 digital-only titles will cease to exist after this date. That is a high number of games set to disappear.
