LV1 Gaming got the opportunity to go to Seattle, Washington, and cover PAX West 2026. There were board games, pin trading, beer gardens, and, of course, plenty of video games. One of the titles that stood out to the team was the upcoming first-person soulslike Valor Mortis. We played this new take on the genre for almost 20 minutes. Additionally, One More Level, the same team that developed Ghostrunner, is responsible for its development and publishing. The typical elements of the genre are all present: save points that double as upgrade points, death that causes you to drop your leveling resource, and the importance of timing. One mechanic that will make a lot of players happy is that sprinting does not take away from your stamina! If you play Soulslikes, you know how much of an issue managing stamina can be during combat.
So take a look at our short playthrough of Valor Mortis on the PAX West 2026 showfloor.
PAX West 2026 Gameplay
The combat is smooth, and while playing this build, it felt fair. Basically anytime I died, it was because of an error on my end. The ability to freely sprint without worrying about not having enough stamina for when an enemy jump scares you. The gun combat did not feel out of place; it created a solid option to damage enemy weakspots. Valor Mortis will be playable on PlayStation 5, PC via Steam, and Xbox Series X|S on October 13, 2026. If any part of this game sounds interesting to you, make sure to add it to your wishlist. And make sure to go check out more of our PAX West 2026 interviews and content here.
