It’s been almost two years since an amazing Steam launch for Valheim. Even today we see some solid review scores on the game’s Steam store page at the time of writing. The recent reviews are numbered at 3792 putting the game at Very Positive. It has 340,035 all-time reviews giving a review rating of Overwhelmingly Positive. Now we have the Valheim port for Xbox. So what was the reason for the port to Xbox? For PlayStation fans, we wonder about a Valheim PlayStation release.
Thanks to an interview on the XEP Podcast we can answer that. They spoke to Jonathan Smårs, a senior developer for Iron Gate Studios. So it seems the reason for the Xbox port was due to Microsoft wanting to have the game on their consoles. So when will we see a Valheim PlayStation port? With the title being ported to both Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One, a port for Sony is surely doable, right?
Valheim PlayStation Release – Will It Happen?
This was also mentioned by Jonathan Smårs. So it doesn’t seem at present we are going to see a Valheim PlayStation port. He says the studio is “only looking at the Xbox, but you never know.”. So don’t rule out a port just yet. As we see from the original interview the deal to bring the game to console was pretty much handled by the game’s publisher Coffee Stain. So if Microsoft reached out to get the game on their consoles, it would be likely Sony will need to follow suit. If you’re on Xbox and wondering how the game runs on the Xbox Series consoles Pure Xbox has compared the game running on both systems.
At least if they can bring the game to PlayStation we have an idea of what the game runs like.
