The return of E3 in 2023 was supposed to be a grand return. This was the year when Covid-19 limitations were being lifted for events, but still being safe. As well as the return of the biggest event for both the industry and fans. However, as the date gets closer and closer, the amount of companies that will be there gets smaller and smaller. And now another publisher has announced that they will not be there as Ubisoft will not be at E3 2023.

The announcement comes in an official statement from VGC. Less than a month ago Ubisoft had actually openly committed to going to the event should it still happen. And all seemed great having one of the largest third-party publishers still attending. However, since then it looks like that stance has changed. In the statement released this is what the company had to say:

E3 has fostered unforgettable moments across the industry throughout the years,” a spokesperson told VGC.

While we initially intended to have an official E3 presence, we’ve made the subsequent decision to move in a different direction, and will be holding a Ubisoft Forward Live event on 12th June in Los Angeles. We look forward to sharing more details with our players very soon.

Who’s Left:

So while they will not be on the official show floor they will have their own show in Los Angeles. It will be held on June 12th, the day before the show floor would open to the press. This is following a long list of news of other companies pulling out of the former gaming behemoth show. Sony continues to not participate and has not participated since 2018. Nintendo stated they will not have a presence on the floor either, continuing to host their Nintendo direct digitally.

Alongside the fact that Xbox will not have a presence on the show floor either. Though this isn’t surprising as with the Microsoft theater right around the corner, they did hold their own showcase of their first-party titles, and upcoming third-party titles coming to their Gamepass previously. While it is not directly a part of E3 it was still in proximity. So this begs the question what large publishers will still be attending the show? With two months till the event, and more partners pulling out it leaves a lot to be worried about.

For now, all we can do is see what happens next. However, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the event is almost washed this year. So tell us are you disappointed about the news that Ubisoft will not be at E3 2023? Let us know in the comments below.
