In a report from Insider Gaming, Tom Henderson reported that after multiple delays-Assassin’s Creed Shadows will launch on March 20,2025. This news is hot off the heels of positive previews and multiple deep dives from Ubisoft on Shadows. The article notes that Shadows currently is on par with the pre order numbers of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. In a recent earnings call Ubisoft’s CEO said:” Early previews have been positive, praising its narrative and immersive experience, with both characters playing critical roles in the game’s storyline, as well as the quality and complementarity of the gameplay provided by the dual protagonist approach.”
Insider Gaming reports that the game currently has 300,000 pre-orders. This news comes after the reports that Star Wars Outlaws failed to meet sales expectations. Which had less than half of the pre-orders that Shadows currently has. Along with that, Tom Henderson notes that if Shadows follows Odyssey, it would be on track to sell 3.5 million units within the first few weeks. To put that in perspective, AC Valhalla was the highest selling Assassin’s Creed game with 8 million players in the first few weeks.
The setting of Japan in an Assassin’s Creed title is one that has been teased since the original Assassin’s Creed with the blood writing on the wall in Desmond’s room. Now that it is finally here, Ubisoft needs it to knock it out of the park to recover from the disappointing sales of their past few titles. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Star Wars: Outlaws both failed to meet sales expectations. Which is sad because both are fantastic games. You can find my reviews for them on the site! I reviewed both highly and I expect Shadows to be another awesome product from Ubisoft.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows launches (hopefully) on March 20,2025. Will you be there day one? I know I will.
