We have a game available for pre-order which is causing issues. This situation is similar to what happened to Horizon Forbidden West originally. And it’s the chosen upgrade path that makes little sense. This is about the upcoming Borderlands spin-off by 2K, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands.
What is the problem with the upgrade path?
All this outrage comes from the official FAQ, and it’s seemingly different for each of the various consoles and editions you can get. And that this is the problem when it really shouldn’t be.
The Playstation Upgrade Situation:
Depending on the platform and version we are seeing differing upgrade options. And let’s start with PlayStation first as the FAQ states:
A PS4 game disc of the Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Standard Edition will play on the PS5; but it will not be optimized for PS5.
However, A PS4 game disc of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Standard Edition can be upgraded to a digital PS5 copy (which has been optimized for PS5) for an additional cost. This will require the PS4 disc to be inserted into a PS5 with a disc drive.
So right now, there is no news on the upgrade cost mentioned in the FAQ. However, we know that Sony is offering a $10 upgrade fee for games like God of War: Ragnarok. Hopefully, this is the price and case for the PlayStation upgrade.
The Xbox Upgrade Situation:
And this is where the controversy kicks in as a look at the question on upgrades states:
A physical Xbox One game disc of the Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Standard Edition will play on Xbox Series X; but it cannot be upgraded to the Xbox Series X version of the game. There will not be any Xbox Series X optimizations.
So, we can upgrade a standard PlayStation copy, but Xbox is a different story. However, you can upgrade a physical copy if you buy the Next-Level Edition or the Chaotic Great Edition. But, there is no mention of being able to upgrade to the next-gen version digitally.
This understandably hasn’t gone down well as there is no reason why they can’t offer the same upgrade for Xbox consoles.
What about cross gen saves?
As for this, we find that only PlayStation is mentioned in the post. So it appears cross-gen saves are not happening on Xbox.
What are your thoughts on this? We’d love to hear as always your view.
