Recently, CD Projekt Red revealed that they would be remaking the first game in The Witcher series. That title isn’t the only work in progress with a new trilogy confirmed. Some more exciting news was confirmed as well as the trilogy along with the remake will be utilizing Unreal Engine 5. In fact, fans are already creating it in Unreal Engine 5 to give an example of what to expect.

The Witcher a franchise well established. It was originally a series of novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. He was not a fan of early 21st-century film and TV releases. Currently, we have the Netflix TV series as well starring Henry Cavill as well as the upcoming upgraded edition to the third game. So, let’s look at the games.

The Witcher

The first game in the series launched on PC. The console version sadly never materialized. We revisited this title recently and that can be found here.

The Witcher 2: Assassin’s of Kings

This is another action RPG game and more in tune with the third though did appear on the console albeit for Xbox 360 just prior to the console being replaced by Xbox One. It also ties into the third game and first very closely chronologically.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The most recent installment launched on all consoles and PC in 2015 and on Nintendo Switch in 2019.  The upgraded PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions are due later this year.  It has been critically acclaimed and has two expansions.  This story involves the search for Ciri

The Future Of The Franchise

The series all had us play as the iconic Geralt of Rivia. The remake should follow suit but the new trilogy we don’t know anything about the. We could continue the story of Ciri or even go further back and tell the story of Geralt”s mentor.. That is Vesemir. Or could it follow the events of the upcoming Blood Origin Netflix series? That is set over a thousand years before the Geralt was even born. The Netflix description reads

Every story has a beginning. Witness the untold history of the Continent with The Witcher: Blood Origin, a new prequel series set in an elven world 1200 years before the events of The Witcher.

So, if you’re just discovering the world of Geralt there are lots to get into. Why not take the advice of Joey Batey’s Jaskier? Toss a coin to your Witcher and enjoy a popular fantasy franchise.
