When we hear about CD Projekt Red in the news, we often expect it to be regarding their latest RPG release. However, before their recent releases, they brought us the world of Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher series. It’s been nearly a decade since the critically acclaimed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was released in 2015, but the franchise is far from over. We know that The Witcher 4 is expected to be in early development, and CD Projekt Red is also fully remaking the 2007 original game. Today, however, we are focusing on the upcoming fourth mainline title in the series. According to an article from IGN, “with the bulk of Cyberpunk 2077 finished, CD Projekt has now shuffled its priorities, putting the bulk of its resources into developing the next mainline The Witcher game, codenamed Polaris.” This suggests that The Witcher 4 is likely to be the main focus for CD Projekt Red in the near future.
This news comes from an earnings call to discuss the 2023 fiscal year. CD Projekt Red themselves have confirmed that they are shifting the “bulk of its efforts to developing the next installment in its widely popular fantasy-themed RPG series”. They even broke down the staff allocation to the development of The Witcher 4 which seems to be 403. We can see this in the screenshot below. We don’t see the code name given to the remake referred to by name in this, though CD Projekt Red is not the sole developer here. The game is done alongside Fool’s Theory. For those a little unsure about the code names, this article may be of some use to you

What We Know About The Witcher 4
We know the game is being developed in Unreal Engine 5. Epic has just shown off the update to that with Unreal Engine 5.4. To help show what level this is affecting games, Robocop Rogue City took advantage of the 5.2 build. We know the upcoming title will “will emphasize freedom while upping the intensity of gameplay” according to an interview with Sebastian Kalemba who is the game director. As to when we will see the game we don’t know but hopefully, we can see some information soon.
