As is the inevitable path of all online games, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre game announced recently that it has ceased its content update plans. While this sounds like a major bummer for fans of the game who still play it. There is a silver lining, however, that should no doubt put the remaining community at ease. Seeing as the game launched in August of 2023, the game has received several balancing updates with some cosmetics thrown in. But the developers have reassured that the work will not be for naught. As they plan to keep the game online and on storefronts while interacting with the community. Here are some quotes from their announcement.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre Will Live On
As mentioned above, Gun Interactive will not be making any future content, as well as balance patches, amongst other things. They will, however, ensure the game is still buyable and playable into the future. This is because they are going to update the game, so the matchmaking is now peer-to-peer instead of dedicated servers. When announcing that they will no longer be making new content for the game, they had this to say:
We feel proud of the game we’ve made and we’re happy that we’re at a point where we feel The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has reached its full potential. From the very beginning, we’ve always had a clear and concise vision for this game. We wanted to push the envelope on multiplayer asymmetrical horror, shed light on this iconic film to a newer generation, and place folks into the beautiful but macabre world of Muerto County and we feel we have achieved that. – Gun Interactive

As of this announcement, the Steam Page for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has been getting hit with negative reviews, and while it does seem like a knee-jerk reaction, it is understandable. When players of an online-only game get attached to it, they do want to see it continue to receive support. These are not just casual players either, some of them have 40-80 hours in the game and feel slighted. What Gun Interactive chooses to make next is yet to be unveiled. But they will have scrutiny from this community, who enjoyed the movie the game is based on.
If you still feel like picking the game up. It is currently available on Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation for $19.99 USD. You may also be able to find a physical copy for a cheaper price as well.
