Obsidian has a new release coming up, but it’s not related to The Outer Worlds 2. However, fans of the latter need not worry, as the developers are still working on the game. It’s worth noting that the upcoming The Outer Worlds 2 will not be available on PlayStation hardware, unlike the original. The new release is actually an updated version of the original game from 2019, optimized for the latest console generation. Despite Obsidian being part of the Microsoft family, the PlayStation 5 will still receive an upgraded version, unlike Ninja Theory’s Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice.
Upon checking the PlayStation Store, it appears that only the Xbox Series X/S has the upgraded version available. However, with The Outer Worlds, fans on PlayStation can relax as an upgraded version for PlayStation 5 is also set to release. For those interested in upgrading on either Xbox Series X/S or PlayStation 5, let’s take a look at the upgrade information provided by Push Square. The new edition, Spacer’s Choice, will be available for both consoles. The PlayStation Store indicates that it will be released on March 7th at 4 pm GMT. According to Push Square, if you already own the game and both expansions, the upgrade will cost £7.99 / $9.99. On the other hand, Pure Xbox reports that Xbox users who own both DLC can upgrade for £5 (approximately $7). If you don’t already own the DLC, you’ll need to pay the full price.
The Outer Worlds Upgrade Details
Private Division provided information about what changes we’ll see for the new hardware.
- It’s The Outer Worlds you love, but even better: 2019’s hit RPG has been updated with better graphics, improved performance, additional animations, higher-res environments, and more.
- Increased level cap: A higher level cap means even more ways to build your character from the seven branches of the skill tree.
- The player-driven story RPG: In keeping with the Obsidian tradition, how you approach The Outer Worlds is up to you. Your choices affect not only the way the story develops, they also affect your character build, companion stories, and end-game scenarios.
- Lead your companions: During your journey through the furthest colony, you will meet a host of characters who will want to join your crew. Armed with unique abilities, these companions all have their own missions, motivations, and ideals. It’s up to you to help them achieve their goals or exploit them to your own ends.
- Explore the corporate colony: Halcyon is a colony at the edge of the galaxy owned and operated by the Halcyon Holdings Corporate Board. They control everything… except for the alien monsters left behind when the terraforming of the colony’s two planets didn’t exactly go according to plan. Find your ship, build your crew, and explore the settlements, space stations, and other intriguing locations throughout Halcyon.
The Outer Worlds will now support DualSense, providing players with higher-resolution graphics, a dynamic weather system, overhauled lighting and environments, improved performance and load times, enhanced details on characters, and many other features. A recent blog post on the PlayStation website provides a detailed overview of the changes made to the game for this new edition, and a new trailer has also been released to showcase the improvements.
