There was one game that caught the eye of gamers when it launched roughly 15 months into the PlayStation 4’s life cycle. That was the supernatural action adventure, The Order: 1886 developed by Ready at Dawn. The game actually celebrates its eighth birthday this year. The launch wasn’t the best, with some players upset at paying full price for a relatively short story regardless of the game’s main selling point, the visuals. In fact, this was one point when we did a review of the life of the PlayStation 4.
The Order: 1886 looked absolutely incredible, and the attention to detail was mind-blowing at the time. We saw carpets with raised bumps where they weren’t flush with the floor, puddles on cobblestone, and even descending the side of a blimp with the surface reacting to your feet. However, for all the game’s strengths on the visual side, mirrors were definitely a problem. When you saw the polish elsewhere, it was a slight surprise. Though implementing reflections in mirrors has proven troublesome for many developers even today.
Was The Order 1886 Worth It
Price wise it’s probably best if you can grab it in a sale. The story isn’t as powerful as some games like God of War (2018) and God of War: Ragnarok. However, it is still an engaging game. The game is worth looking at, however, just to see how the last gen hardware was pushed to its limits. Sadly, I doubt we’ll see any more from the franchise. A sequel would have been excellent, and a remaster could have taken advantage of the PlayStation 5’s power as well.
