E3 has always been the biggest event of the year for gamers. Helping to kickstart a summer of news of all things coming in the future of that year and next. It was fair to say that it was the Superbowl of gaming. However, it seems that it won’t be happening this year as the ESA cancels the digital E3 2022 event.
So the first confirmation came from Razer PR Lead Will Powers. He was the first to openly state that he had received an email confirming that E3 was canceled. Now, this was confirmation of the digital show. As we were aware that there were already confirmations that the in-person physical event was already canceled back as far as January. The ESA had cited issues stemming from the rising omicron variant cases of Covid-19.
Post companies, and fans admittedly, were still awaiting the dates for the digital show. And with the Show less than two months away, this comes as a shock and also not a shock. This is simply because, with almost no time to really announce a schedule or plan for it, it was almost a certainty that it wasn’t happening.
And shortly after this, we heard reports from other known industry insiders such as Jeff Grub, who had also been hearing reports. I had also heard something similar that shortly after the in-person event cancellation; there were already talks of the digital event possibly getting canceled.
Now while E3 is will not be happening in 2022, it seems the ESA will be prepping to go big in 2023. In a statement on their official site. In their response, they say they will be focusing all their energy on building a bigger and better E3 come 2023. With a large in-person event that you’d expect from a gather of the industry’s fans and partners.
So E3 will be bringing back its big showcase next year. But what about for this year? Well, Geoff Keighly is already all over it. As shortly after the confirmation of the cancelation; Geoff was tweeting that Summer Games Fest will return again this year. So gamers can expect another summer of interviews, and events spread throughout June and July. While it is not as ideal and as easy to manage, at least fans will still be able to enjoy the upcoming news online.
So lets us know guys, how do y’all feel about the Digital E3 2022 show being canceled? Are you happy it’s gone or feeling the pain of missing the conferences and show floor? Hopefully, we will see you all at E3 in 2023.
