It seems that SEGA has absolutely been on fire and making a grand comeback. The former console maker and Japanese publishing giant also had a strong presence at the TGAs this year. However, the biggest reason for that is the return of their mascot, as Sonic has been on fire recently. Especially since they had a special announcement for a brand new game, alongside the Sonic 2 trailer. Everyone’s favorite hedgehog switches it up, as the blue blur goes open world in Sonic Frontiers!
While there isn’t a lot of information on the game just yet, the info we do have is big. The biggest surprise was Ian Flynn writing the story for the game. Ian is best known for his work on the Sonic Archie comics.
Additionally, the entire English cast is returning to voice their characters. That means that Roger Smith will be reprising his role as Sonic, Colleen Villard will be returning as Tails and Cindy Robinson as Amy.
An official statement:
As an official part of the announcement Takashi Iizuka, Creative Officer at Sonic Team USA had this to say,
“Sonic Frontiers is a huge leap forward for the franchise, delivering an evolved gameplay experience that can be enjoyed by longtime Sonic fans and action-adventure enthusiasts alike. With the effort of the talented developers at Sonic Team Japan; we’ve created an all-new style of gameplay experience for Sonic the Hedgehog. Where players will be able to explore lush and expansive landscapes with Sonic’s signature speed and abilities. There’s sure to be lots of twists and turns around every corner in Sonic Frontiers, and we’re excited to unveil more information about the game over the coming months.”
You can watch the official trailer below. Sonic Frontiers will be launching Holiday 2022 for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
