July last year we saw The Ascent launch on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S as well as PC. So for those unaware of what the game is it’s a cyberpunk-themed action RPG shooter. The developer responsible for the game was an indie studio from Sweden called Neon Giant. It was published by Curve Digital and was extremely well received. What made this even more remarkable was some information on the games Wikipedia page. This told us it was “developed using Unreal Engine 4 by a team of 11 people and is Neon Giant’s debut in the industry”.
Then in December, we heard rumors of The Ascent heading to PlayStation consoles at some point shortly. So this came about thanks to the game receiving a rating for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in Taiwan. Nothing more was heard but it’s not the first Xbox console exclusive in recent times to arrive on a PlayStation. We saw it with The Medium and Call of the Sea. Going further back Rise of the Tomb Raider was a period an Xbox console exclusive. Therefore after this rating was found what about The Ascent.
The Ascent on PlayStation. Will it happen?
The game’s developer has come out and spoken about the rumors of a PlayStation rating. This led to an announcement from the co-founder and creative director of the developer Neon Giant. And this is what Arcade Berg had this to say:
We’ve been blown away by how amazing the response to The Ascent has been so far on Xbox and PC, so we are thrilled to be bringing the game to a new audience of PlayStation players. We started making The Ascent because we love making games and we want to share what we’ve made with as many gamers as possible in the hope that people enjoy playing it as much as we enjoyed making it.
Another member of the studio, fellow co-founder, and creative director Tor Frick further added.
Our wonderful community and their feedback is so important to us and helps us shape the game. It’s amazing to look back and see how far we’ve come even since The Ascent first launched in July last year. We have been able to add new features that players want such as Photo Mode, Transmogrification and now New Game+, as well as the DLC packs. We’re super excited to now be able to bring all of this to players on PlayStation and grow our great community.
The release details
We have a launch trailer for PlayStation systems as well as release information. So for those waiting for this release, The Ascent is making its PlayStation debut on March 24th. It does seem no co-op cross-play will be available. For existing platforms, the DLC is available for £3.99 / $4.99 / €4.99. The UK Pricing is £24.99 with a 10% discount for PS Plus members up until launch. This should put the US release at $29.99 as well.
