The Game Awards 2022 event from last week is most likely all caught up by now. We witnessed numerous announcements and the release of numerous new games. Additionally, we had many nominations for winners in a number of categories. The anticipated Game of the Year competition served as the event’s climax. Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok were the two contenders for 2022. In the end, Elden Ring of From Software won the coveted prize and took home the title. From Software had another game to showcase, so it wasn’t all. Therefore, while we did not receive any DLC for Elden Ring, we did receive news of the newest Armored Core game.

For a while, there have been rumors that From Software is working on a new Armored Core. In fact, before Elden Ring debuted earlier this year, Forbes published a story about this. It was revealed afterward that the rumor at the time was the result of someone claiming to have seen screenshots and video of the most recent installment in the franchise. When Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon was revealed at The Game Awards, rumors were proven to be accurate.

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon And What We Know

First of all, lets look at the trailer we saw shown at The Game Awards for the upcoming release due sometime in 2023

We have heard from Hidetaka Miyazaki and Masaru Yamamura, who have said what can be expected from the game. This came when they spoke to IGN in an interview about the game. One question asked, was will it be more similar to the Soulsborne games than previous titles in the series. Hidetaka Miyazaki upon answering gave a resounding no with the following response.

No, we’ve not been making a conscious effort to try to direct it towards more Soulsborne type gameplay. First of all, let me just make that clear.

The essential direction of [Armored Core VI] was to go back and take a good look at the core concept of Armored Core and what made that series special. So we wanted to take the assembly aspect, assembling and customizing your own mech — your AC — and then being able to exact a high level of control over the assembled mech. So we wanted to take those two core concepts and reexamine those in our modern environment.

And, of course, what that means is taking our know-how and experiences from game development in recent years, and applying that knowledge to the development of [Armored Core VI], and reexamining it together with those core concepts of Armored Core.

So it seems when this launches, it won’t feel like titles we’ve grown accustomed to from the developer. Meaning, we can expect a game that differs very much from Dark Souls 3 or Bloodborne.
