It has certainly been a busy period for Gearbox. Firstly releasing Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands and then on Thursday, they announced the purchase of the developer Lost Boys. The develop[er was also at PAX East and it was left for their CEO Randy Pitchford to close the show. The final announcement was news of a return to the episodic adventure Tales From The Borderlands.

The game is already in development and is set to launch later this year. However, it won’t be the return of Rhys and Fiona. This installment is getting an all-new cast. However, keep an eye over the summer as the Tales From The Borderlands will get a full reveal then.

Tales From The Borderlands. What Details We Have On The New Game

So far there is very little to go on. In the video below Randy Pitchford takes the stage around one hour fourteen minutes in.

As well as the all-new cast and 2022 release we have a promotional image. This has the famous logo and a trio of silhouetted figures which could mean we have three main characters. Also, the full reveal will confirm if this is to be the case. We also don’t know how it connects to the original release. So is it a full-blown sequel or even a prequel? It could be a spin-off from events during the 2014 release.

The original game was a Telltale release whereas this is nothing to do with them. We do know they are working on at least the sequel to The Wolf Among Us and a game based on The Expanse. Therefore this release is being handled by Gearbox themselves. As we know, the initial closure of Telltale wasn’t helped with them undertaking multiple projects all at once. So maybe just the couple they have is enough for them to handle.

Once again that’s speculation and nothing has been confirmed as to why Gearbox is taking the lead. We also don’t know if it’s episodic like the original game or a single release. This change in approach we saw in Life is Strange as the original game was episodic but the recent entry Life is Strange: True Colours was not.

We’d love to hear what you think. Are you excited about the new release? Or was Tales From The Borderlands not for you. Whatever the feeling, please get in touch and share those thoughts.
