System Shock Remake Next Fest Demo Impressions

PC gamers know about Next Fest on Steam. For a week we are seeing lots of live streams and demos featuring a whole selection of upcoming titles. Games across various genres from the likes of Ravenbound, Planet of Lana, and Route 66 Simulator. Other games include Sherlock Holmes The Awakening, Scene Investigators, and System Shock Remake.

Last year I decided to test and put the System Shock Remake demo through its paces. This one is revamped version with several changes which are mentioned by the developer. So how does the demo hold up now ahead of the game’s proposed launch next month?

System Shock Remake Demo – How It’s Shaping Up

When we fire up the demo we see it’s a beta build. However, we don’t know exactly how old this build is. My thoughts were positive on the demo that was available a few months ago and if you wish to see what I thought, then read here. So let’s look at a small section early on so we can see how it runs.

I found the demo as optimised as the previous one, though the introduction is very much different and explains far more. Visually we see the same art style which is the same updated version of the original. It’s how they would have created the game had they done it today. If you want to check the demo out then check out the game listing on Steam.

I like the art style of the game, it is a modern take on a game I remember fondly from nearly thirty years ago. It’s not as smooth as some modern games you can play. However I’m fine with that, it’s extremely playable, even in the beta phase this demo is from. If you’re a fan of the original or games like Bioshock, it’s very much worth a look.
