Subnautica 2 Announced for Next Year with Co-op Confirmed

Subnautica 2 Underwater Scene with Creatures

When it comes to the survival genre, almost every idea has either been done to death or not properly fleshed out. But certain survival game gems, like Grounded, Ark: Survival Evolved, and even Palworld, offer unique twists on the genre that make them desirable and memorable. However, the experience of survival games can be pretty scary, and when it comes to Subnautica, developer Unknown Worlds has crafted and mastered that element of fear while being in the same survival genre.

The Subnautica games are very rare and only two titles exist that offer a truly unforgettable experience since 2014. That is, until yesterday at the Xbox Partner Showcase where Unknown Worlds surprised the gaming world with the announcement of Subnautica 2. Showcasing a similar setting with familiar horrifying underwater creature designs, and the promise of co-op, a long-requested feature.

Subnautica 2 Details and Platforms

Unlike its predecessors, Subnautica 2 will not take place on the planet 4546b. It will take place on a whole new planet, with a wholly new experience. Aside from the 3-player co-op feature that will be completely optional, there will be all new biomes to explore and creatures to survive against. New tools will be added to the mix, and the building system will be overhauled from previous games. As well as a new system that hints at enhancing your character, and not just your equipment:

“Use your Biosampler to take samples for study. As you learn more about this world, evolve your genetics to adapt your body for survival.” – Subnautica 2 Steam Page.

As of right now, there are no details on pricing for Subnautica 2. But it will be launching into early access next year. It will be arriving Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. It will also be included in Xbox Game Pass Day one.
