It seems quite some time we were awaiting the reveal of PlayStation 5 and we had some predictions for the Future of Gaming Event. And many games received a reveal and one has been fairly silent until Annapurna had a showcase today. The game in question is Stray.
What is Stray?
As we know it’s by Annapurna Interactive and BlueTwelve. The original teaser showed a cat left to wander through a world devoid of human life. Instead, it was inhabited by robots. It was a title that caught my eye.
So where is the title now?
Today we got some actual gameplay. And the first impressions are extremely positive. But let’s look more at what we saw in this trailer
We were talked through the gameplay by Swann Martin-Rage who is the studio producer.
You’ll be playing as the cat in the trailers. So you can naturally jump about your environments. Exploration of this cyberpunk-type environment leads you to meet a small drone called B-12. This will aid your navigation and helps you communicate with the robots of the city.
So what style game is it?
According to Swann Martin-Rage who posted on the PlayStation Blog:
At its core, Stray is an adventure game. It tells the story of a cat who accidentally falls into a weird, mysterious city and his journey to return to his family. Exploration is a key element and as we love to add lots of details to our environments, we hope players will enjoy looking for all the little bits of hidden lore that we’ve added across each level.
There’s quite a lot to find and learn about this forgotten city and the surprising characters who live in it! Not everything will be explained clearly, so it will be up to the most attentive and insightful players to figure out what exactly this place is, who these inhabitants and creatures are, and the story and purpose of this beguiling world in which we are immersed.
They wanted to show how the cat is a unique protagonist. And it seems a very playful one at that. We saw interactions with the environment. Such as using a bucket to stop a fan. Some of the character interactions however are there to make us remember that a cat will deep down, be a cat. So you can scratch at furniture for the simple reason of being a cat.
When is it coming out? And for what systems?
We have no definite release date as yet. All we have is a release window of early 2022.
