Sony has had a few science fiction-based shooters over the console generations. Before Horizon Zero Dawn, Guerrilla Games had Killzone. This initially launched in 2004 on PlayStation 2. Two sequels followed in 2009 and 2011 for PlayStation 3. At the launch of PlayStation 4 in 2013 we had Killzone Shadow Fall. Before Spider-Man, Insomniac gave us the Resistance franchise. In fact, the third game celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2021.
Both studios have gone on to different franchises as we know with incredible success and key titles in the Sony first-party library. Horizon Zero Dawn has gained a sequel in Horizon Forbidden West and that gets its first expansion this April. Insomniac is working on the sequel to their 2018 Spider-Man title, hopefully out this year.
Sony And Sci-Fi Games
Yes, Bungie is now part of the PlayStation family but Destiny won’t be a PlayStation exclusive. Though Push Square just published something interesting they found by IconEra. They are unable to post images of the leak so the link to the information they provided is found here.
It appears to be a very short gameplay clip in the third person of a man with a rifle. Add to the fact we have a background of what appears an alien location. IconEra claimed this Sony title is using Unreal Engine 5. We also were told it’s a Sci-Fi RPG. It’s an early build and is a *first/second party in development by an xDev”. So we’d be looking potentially at a game possibly combining Mass Effect and Gears of War. As always we love hearing from you. So what do you think about this news? It could be very much a story worth watching. Though it may be a while before we hear any more on what this project is.
