We talked about the survival game genre at the start of the year. This includes games like Minecraft, No Man’s Sky, Retreat To Enen, Green Hell, Stranded Deep, and The Forest. The last one mentioned on the list, The Forest is available on PC and PlayStation 4 via the backward compatibility feature, as well as PlayStation 5. With the active community and generally positive discussions about the game, a sequel was well overdue. Enter Sons Of The Forest. When I wrote the survival game genre article, the sequel had no release date, but that has now changed.

Sons Of The Forest, according to its Steam listing, will be released on February 23rd. Therefore, we are just over a fortnight from the release of the game. At present, it is PC only though with the previous game hitting PlayStation 4, we can hope the sequel gains a console release. We also now have a list of PC requirements to run the game which are as follows:

What Else We Know For The Release Of Sons Of The Forest

A statement on Steam from the developer gives a little more information on the ambitious sequel to the Forest.

Hey Everyone,

It’s been a long journey since we first started ‘Sons of The Forest’ development and it’s grown into the biggest most complex game we have ever made. There is still so much more we want to add; items, new mechanics, gameplay balance and more. We didn’t want to delay again so have instead decided to involve the community in the continued development of this project and keep our February 23rd release date but instead release in Early Access.

‘The Forest’ turned out to be a massive success, due mostly to the awesome community and the suggestions, feedback, and bug reports the players shared with us. We are really excited and hope that players want to come on this new journey with us to make this the ultimate survival horror simulator.

Sons of the Forest is launching in a short while, but it’s not the full release. Early access launches are not unknown for the developer of the game, Endnight Games. Back in 2018, the game’s predecessor also launched as a title in early access. We also know that the game hit full release nearly four years later. This could imply that any console release will be delayed, if at all. Do you like the forest? Have you ever played it? Are you a fan of survival games? Let us know in the comments section below!
