A captivating story, intense combat, and a unique take on the cyberpunk genre. These are the defining features of SlavicPunk: Old Timer, an isometric shooter video game. Based on the works of renowned Polish science-fiction and fantasy books author Michał Gołkowski. The game puts players in the shoes of Yanus, a private investigator with a troubled past. And he will embark on a thrilling journey to solve an unexpected case revolving around a stolen data carrier.
SlavicPunk offers a unique, inherently Slavic take on the cyberpunk world. It has a sharp sense of humor. Along with a slightly pessimistic view of the neon-grey shades of reality. And a mix of futuristic-esque and overly outdated technologies. The game also includes grim, brutalist architecture typical of post-communist countries. As well as characters dealing with unequal distribution of goods and wealth.

Have you ever wondered how Slavs would cope with a dystopian future run by malicious corporations, electronic body augmentations, and synthetic food, being surrounded by a barely functional technology? Well, now it’s the time to check it out.
- Neo-noir story – meet Yanus, a troubled private investigator fighting his inner demons, an array of city gangs and an ominous corporation that apparently brought down the city he once loved. Discover what lurks beneath the bright neon light and the cold concrete walls of this world in a story by Michał Gołkowski – a best-selling sci-fi and fantasy author.
- Responsive combat and movement systems – each and every weapon has its own, unique character and tons of upgrades, allowing to customize one’s experience in plowing through the City streets to individual taste and preference, and the movement system is enriched with abilities allowing you to escape any tight situation unscathed… Well, almost.
- Battlehacking – our own hi-tech spellcasting system, since this is what it is! A well-timed Battlehack can tip the scales to your favor in even what seems to be the ost dire of situations. Sometimes, a direct confrontation with an enemy is not necessary – it’s enough to distract, incapacitate or eliminate them from afar, saving your ammo and strength for when it’s really needed.
- Genuine atmosphere – SlavicPunk: Oldtimer graphic and artistic style shows a realistically grim, dismal, and charmingly chaotic vision of what a hypothetical Central-Eastern European city would look like in a cyberpunk-ish setting and what would clearly set it aside from, say, Blade Runner’s L.A. of Akira’s Neo Tokyo. In its essence, it is a retro-futurist and a bit more dystopian vision of the world that we, the dev team, all grew in – one full of people doomed to count on themselves only, making what they can out of what little they have, often resorting to their wits, guile and sheer luck to make their ends meet – without losing their minds and lives in the process.
More Than A Top-Down Shooter
The game’s levels are a mix of action-packed sequences with stealth elements, hacking, and environmental puzzle-solving. Intermixed with a slower-paced city exploration, side quests, and storytelling. Players are encouraged to take advantage of the modular weapon upgrade system to make each encounter look and feel unique. Helping Yanus solve his last case, you’ll get to explore the city and uncover the secrets of the dystopian future.
As a team, the creators of SlavicPunk asked themselves a profound question: “What was the world going to look like in a couple of decades?” The attempts to answer this puzzle have had a tremendous deal of influence on the game’s artistic choices.
