For the first time ever, Sid Meier’s Civilization® VII is coming to virtual and mixed reality, and it’s shaping up to be a game-changer. This release will be exclusive to Meta Quest 3 and 3s, so if you’ve been looking for a reason to upgrade, this might just be it.
If you’re new to Civilization, here’s a quick rundown: it’s a strategy simulation where you build an empire from the ground up. You’ll guide your civilization through different historical eras, making crucial decisions about technology, diplomacy, and conquest. As you progress, you’ll face new challenges, expand your influence, and ultimately create a thriving empire that stands the test of time.
Now, let’s talk about how Civilization VII is adapting to VR and MR. Instead of playing on a traditional screen, players will be fully immersed in a diorama-like war table. With the Quest’s impressive XR passthrough, you’ll see your empire laid out right in front of you, transforming your living room into the ultimate strategy hub. Reaching out and physically interacting with your empire in mixed reality is going to be a huge step forward for the series. This will be more engaging than ever, especially for new players.
One of the most exciting features? Multiplayer mode. You’ll be able to play with other Quest users, strategizing and competing in ways that have never been possible before in the franchise.
Personally I am always looking for new mixed-reality experiences for my Quest to experiment with the the technology. Civilization VII is definitely going to be on my list. I can’t wait to dive in and see how this classic strategy game translates into a brand-new format!
